I am Full Professor of Computer Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at the 麻豆社-Bolzano, where I currently serve as Vice-Dean for Studies and Coordinator of the BSc in Informatics and Management of Digital Business.

My research is internationally recognized at the intersection of artificial intelligence and process science, where I am considered a pioneer. I am also actively engaged in outreach on artificial intelligence for the general public, companies, and decision-makers.

I have co-authored more than 300 publications in artificial intelligence, process science, and information systems engineering, receiving 10 best paper awards and 2 test-of-time awards. My research focuses on the modelling, analysis, and mining of processes, agents, and their dynamics, with a particular emphasis on combining model-driven and data-driven techniques to engineer intelligent, trustworthy, process-aware information systems and agent-based dynamics.

I have served as Program Chair of BPM 2018, RuleML+RR 2019, ICPM 2020, and CBI 2021, and as General Chair of ICPM 2022, EDOC 2022, and AIxIA 2024. From 2019 to 2024, I was a steering committee member of the IEEE Task Force on Process Mining.

Since 2025, I have been a EurAI Fellow, a distinction awarded for exceptional contributions to AI research to only a very small proportion of members of EurAI societies across Europe. Since the first edition of the ranking, I have also been included among the Stanford top 2% most-cited scientists worldwide in the PLOS Biology updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators.

I received the 2015 鈥淢arco Somalvico鈥� Award from the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence, recognizing the best Italian researcher under the age of 35 for advancing the state of the art in artificial intelligence.

In February 2019, I co-founded Ontopic s.r.l., a company developing cutting-edge technologies for intelligent data access and integration.
