Short bio

Associate Professor at the Âé¶¹Éç-Bolzano with more than three decades of teaching, training, and applied research experience across higher education, schools, public institutions, and innovation-oriented initiatives. His work focuses on educational technologies, inclusion, media pedagogy, digital citizenship, teacher education, computational thinking, and the relationship between digital culture and learning. Alongside academic work, he has founded and co-founded multiple social and entrepreneurial initiatives dedicated to educational innovation, inclusive digital tools, school-facing experimentation, and technology transfer.

Research Focuses

Research Transfer, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship

  • 1993-1996: Educational partner with Intel Corporation Italia; 1999-2017: educational manager and project lead through ACAB s.r.l., a consultancy company founded to provide educational-technology services linked to Intel.
  • Intel Teach to the Future: introduction and long-term management of the programme in Italy, with large-scale teacher involvement and national dissemination.
  • Development of low-cost educational computing prototypes, including an Intel Atom-based device conceived for educational adoption and sustainability, and a fully recycled-cardboard desktop prototype based on Intel architecture.
  • 2006-present: co-founder of Canalescuola, the first university spin-off/cooperative initiative created with two students and still active in educational technologies, inclusion, and school-oriented dissemination of good practices.
  • 2012-present: co-founder of Fublab Coop., the university’s second spin-off/cooperative initiative focused on technology, education, applied experimentation, and inclusive design.
  • 2014: presentation at the Scratch Conference hosted at the MIT Media Lab of a redesigned PicoBoard-inspired hardware tool intended to support the development of low-cost inclusive assistive computing solutions.
  • 2021-present: co-founder of Fublab s.r.l., created to access specific EU funding lines; subsequent development of the Digital Mediators course for unemployed women in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, oriented toward educational-social work, digital citizenship, and the harmonious integration of technologies into everyday life.
  • 2023-present: member of the team awarded a provincial innovation grant in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano for the development of an innovative laptop prototype for primary school; the project is currently moving from prototyping toward pilot production and school-based experimentation.

Selected Teaching and Training Areas

  • Educational technologies, media pedagogy, and digital pedagogy in higher education and teacher education.
  • Technologies for inclusion: teaching and applied work since 1998, including initiatives connected with specific learning disorders (DSA) and low-cost inclusive technological solutions.
  • STEM and computational-thinking education, with long-standing engagement in programming cultures and hands-on experimentation from the early 1990s onward.
  • Training activities for universities, schools, companies, and public bodies; among early examples, development of an Internet course for older adults for the Family Department of the Municipality of Ravenna (1997).
  • Supervision of numerous student traineeships and entrepreneurship-adjacent learning paths involving students and graduates in applied educational and technological initiatives.

International and Professional Engagement

  • Author of papers presented at six conferences of the Media Ecology Association; ongoing development of a research line on digital ecology as an extension of media ecology.
  • Participation from the 1990s onward in numerous academic, EU-funded, private, and mixed research and development projects with partners across Europe and North America / Canada.
  • Long-standing participation in the Scratch learning community and multiple Scratch-related conferences hosted at the MIT Media Lab.
  • Judge in FIRST LEGO League competitions in Italy since the early editions; judge in robotics competitions connected with the NAO platform.
