The centre understands the history of education as a resource for reflecting on contemporary challenges. It documents and researches the history of education in South Tyrol in dialogue with interregional and international research debates as well as cooperation partners. The results are published in academic publications, exhibitions, documentary films, and public history projects, and are closely linked to university teaching. At the core is an interpretative analysis of the historical genesis of current educational issues—from societal attitudes toward education to organizational and didactic concepts of teaching. In the spirit of the Third Mission, the center cooperates with museums, cultural associations, and media partners, organizes storytelling cafés, and offers professional development for educational professionals. Through the JuniorUNI initiative, it conducts research workshops for children and school classes and maintains a network for very small schools.
