Designing Public Services: “The LAMA approach to co-design and innovation"
It was an intense and engaging afternoon of discussion and experimentation, dedicated to exploring the synergies between public administration, the third sector, and active citizenship, and to understanding how these actors can collaborate to foster processes of participatory social innovation.
Following the opening by Giacomo Buzzao (unibz), the contributions of Fiorenzo Polito and Chiara Manfriani (LAMA Impresa Sociale) introduced the vision, methods, and tools of the LAMA approach, demonstrating how public policies can be transformed into concrete processes of shared innovation.
At the core of the discussion was the value of co-design as a people-centred, systemic, and iterative approach, capable of connecting needs, stakeholders, and territories, moving beyond predefined frameworks and paving the way for truly innovative solutions.
The session then explored the main phases of the process: from building a strategic vision to fostering active community participation, through to implementation, evaluation, and the creation of a lasting legacy within local contexts. Particular attention was given to participation, understood not merely as involvement, but as a genuine redistribution of decision-making power, a key step in developing policies that are more effective, legitimate, and grounded in community needs.
Significant space was also devoted to practical application: drawing on numerous case studies developed by LAMA, participants worked on real-world challenges, bridging theory and practice while experimenting with concrete tools such as stakeholder mapping, co-design workshops, and community engagement techniques.
The day concluded with a collective reflection session, where the solutions developed were shared and discussed, opening up new perspectives and ideas for the future.
Many thanks to all participants for their active contribution and inspiring exchange!
