Transdisciplinary Workshop: Research through Design, Art and Technology

Semestre 1 · 95210 · Corso di Dottorato di ricerca in Experimental Research through Design, Art and Technologies · 5CFU · EN

The Transdisciplinary workshop 1 offers students the opportunity to carry out practice-oriented research under the supervision of lecturers from different disciplinary areas and/or invited experts to explore transdisciplinary research approaches driven by design, art and technology. The theme will be defined on the basis of research proposals submitted by students in order to integrate common and cross-cutting aspects.

Argomenti dell'insegnamento
The course provides an opportunity to explore design by engaging with the approaches and practices of human-centred and interaction design. The course critically explores the primary methods and practices employed in designing for and with people, focusing particularly on inclusion and accessibility in interaction, experience and communication within phygital contexts and artefacts. The course offers an overview of the main aspects of human-centred design, with artefacts. Prototyping classes are held in the CO-SPACE of the Faculty of Engineering, at NOI Tech Park. Students reflect on proto-personas and scenarios that are relevant for their research. Then they explore how ideas can take a digital and physical shape (aka phygital). Taking a reflective stance, they are invited to evaluate these forms from the perspectives of their potential users, working in small teams, with ad-hoc materials. Students are encouraged to share their outcomes, reflect on, and critically analyse the experience, both during the design critique activities and the final sharing session.

Modalità di insegnamento
Our sessions will include instructor-led presentations, discussions, hands-on classroom activities, and student presentations.

Obiettivi formativi
Students will acquire: Knowledge and skills in theory and methodology, and in the acquisition of methods, tools and practices; Knowledge of the ethical aspects of academic research; The ability to develop projects in terms of design, artistic ability, experimentation and technological application in order to generate and foster knowledge, culture and innovation.

Modalità d'esame
Students will give an in-class presentation to share and collectively discuss their outcomes and experiences.

Criteri di valutazione
Capacity of critically reflect and discuss on the research experience
