The end is the beginning
In a circular economy the so called "end of life cycle" is not the end but actually the beginning of something new.
Inside the Master program of Eco-Social Design prof. Aart von Bezooijen organized during this semester’s design and production course the project “The end is the beginningâ€. “We focused on the (final) stages of collections, deconstruction and recycling as starting points for individual student projects, enjoying our explorative journey of (un)making the world as we know itâ€, says von Bezooijen.
The final products are now shown in a temporary summer exhibition at the BITZ Fablab in Bozen-Bolzano. The window exhibition is displaying ideas on refurbished non-stick pans, collaborations with local crafts, materials made of disposed masks, reuse of bicycle tubes, wood-based water filtering, fermentation told by microbes, reconsidering manufacturing as birth and documented field work at the local vineyards. And since the exhibition is a window display that can be seen from outside, the opening times are 24/7.
With contributions by students Júlia Farrio Duran, Silvia Cohn, Henri Kirsch, Francesco Ferrero, Andrea Righetto, Carola Kurz, Beatrice Citterio and Elisabeth Maldari.
